Product Description

Made in Sweden. The Outdoor Knives and Tools made by Casstrom Sweden are suited to serious bushcraft, hunting and survival pursuits. New in the original packaging.

DESCRIPTION:

A classic wilderness Woodsman knife with Curly Birch designed by custom knife maker Roger Harrington, an experienced outdoorsman, and knife maker who has taught Bushcraft and survival to civil and military customers for the last twenty years with his company Bison Bushcraft in Sussex, England.

Proper full-tang knife with a blade measuring ~ 3 1/2" long, straight and fairly round handle made to suit both large and small hands. The leather cord for the handle and a strong deep pocket leather sheath with matching Firesteel is included.

The blade is made of around 4mm thick Bohler K720 high carbon tool steel to make the blade extremely durable for heavy use such as log-splitting, or so-called "batoning" without making the knife to heavy or uncomfortable to carry. The knife has a Scandinavian grind to make it very robust at the same time easy to carve wood with an easy to sharpen on a small flat whetstone/sharpener in the forest. The knife is a really good all-around tool for field use.

ABOUT THE STEEL: O2 HIGH CARBON TOOL STEEL

Bohler Tool Steel K720 is a very tough and strong oil hardened high carbon tool steel. The chemical composition allows it to be hardened to a high degree whilst maintaining ductility and toughness at the same time as it is easy to sharpen and can obtain a razor sharp edge. Whilst easy to sharpen, the low chromium content means it will tarnish if left wet and it must, therefore, be wiped after use and protected by oil or wax when put away for storage. Steel analysis: C. 0.9%, Si. 0.25%, Mn. 2.0%, Cr. 0.35% V. 0.1% (HRC 58-60)

    About Casstrom Sweden

Casstrom is a rapidly growing knife company with its roots in the Scandinavian knife making tradition and innovative designs that are suited to serious bushcraft, hunting, and survival pursuits.

Casstrom has made a name for itself in Europe and the UK over the last several years putting their unique spin on the traditional Scandinavian bushcraft knife in innovative ways. Speaking to these innovative features David Cassini Backstrom, owner of Casstrom, says. Improved functionality or durability is the main aim, however, all the products need to look good also. The style is traditional whilst we seek to innovate the way our knives feel, are carried or the material combinations if necessary. Not everything traditional is functional, this is where the thinking cap goes on and we come up with new ideas.

    Blade Grinds

    • Scandi Grind - The traditional Scandinavian grind has been around a long time and for good reason. The blade is flat ground on both sides at a relatively steep angle to form the sharpened edge. It's not seen on a lot of modern knives because of the difficultly producing a proper flat v-grind like the Scandi. This grind allows a relatively thin blade to stand up to very hard use as most of the thickness of the steel is left in the blade.
    • Full Flat Grind - A full flat grind features a flat bevel that travels from the spine of the knife to the edge with a small secondary bevel to form the sharpened edge. This grind is not as exceptionally strong overall as the Scandi, but still suitable for most woodcraft activity. The advantage of the full flat is when cutting softer material such as prepping meals, skinning game, etc. The secondary bevel is also generally easier to maintain than the full v-grind of the Scandi.
