Special Note:

The Miao Dao, known as "grain leaf" saber, receives its name from the early 20th century. Its history is a subject of debate among some scholars and sword enthusiasts but all agree about its reemergence in the mid-16th century by General Qi Jiguang who resurrected the sword to combat pirates raiding coastal cities. After the victory over the pirates, the Miao Dao remained useful battling enemies of the Ming Empire which led to this famous general's men to be known as the "invincible Qi army". Built for Martial Artists.

The Art of Chinese Style Sword Making

The forging of a Chinese sword is a subtle and careful process, an art that has developed over the centuries as much in response to stylistic and aesthetic considerations as to technical improvements.

3,000 years ago, the bronze swords were created during Western Chou dynasty around 1122-770 B.C., the iron swords with the bronze handle were created during Warring States Period around 475-221 B.C., the iron and steel sword has replaced the bronze during Han Dynasty around 206 B.C. - A.D. 220.

In A.D. 265, swords are replaced by sabers for military weapons. The single edged swords are easier to wield than the double-edged swords. Swords now assumed multiple roles such as power, rank, symbols of honor, and decoration.

Today, swords are still being made by modern artisans. They continue to hold a unique place in Chinese culture; some pursue the traditional methods, while others apply modern tools, techniques, and materials to the craft. A great number of commercially available swords are being made in China and Cambodia with modern tools and materials employing traditional methods.

Another reason for the great popularity of the Chinese swords is that an authentic Chinese sword, handmade in China, can easily cost US$12,000 to $25,000 and up. Chinese made production level approximations are typical $1,000-$2,500 for something reasonably traditional.

Dragon King team plies their abilities also to the production of higher-end katana with folded steel, several styles of sword canes, a handful of Chinese style swords and even jewelry.

    • Dragon King Katana - The Seasonal Katana Series represents an entry level katana with traditional handle construction and cotton Tsuka-Ito (wrap) and real same (ray skin). Designed for regular cutting, the 5160 high-carbon steel blade is through-hardened for toughness.
    • Dragon King Canes and Sword Canes - Dragon King has taken their exceptional design and precision casting talents to the world of collectible sword canes. These canes feature tough carbon fiber shafts with forged blades (coming soon!) or beautiful Rosewood shafts and forged-folded (Damascus) blades. Many of the sword canes also integrate hidden utility knives, a first in the cane market.
